FAQs

I can't dance will can I still Zumba?
Yes! Zumba is for everyone - all you need to do is be willing to move to the music. Zumba creates a party-like atmosphere that provides a fun, happy environment for people to enjoy group exercise without having to worry about 'getting the routine right' there is no right or wrong with Zumba (or even left or right) if you move in a slightly different way to the Instructor it doesn't matter - you bring your own 'flavour' to the class. As long as you are moving safely without hurting yourself and enjoying the party atmosphere that is all that matters!

What should I wear / bring to the class?
Zumba is a fitness class so wear comfortable clothes suitable for exercise, to move and get hot in. Really whatever works for you, if you are female I would recommend you wear a sports bra / support top. You should also wear trainers or dance shoes (not jazz shoes but dance trainers - especially ones that have a pivot spot on the sole for example: Nike Musique VII or Nike Shox, Nike QVida, or any dance trainers etc. There are a lot of moves that require you to pivot or move from side to side, front to back - if your trainers have a strong tread this will make it hard for you to move.

Please make sure you bring a bottle of water (essential) and a small towel (optional), you will need to re-hydrate and will probably sweat if you're working hard! There is no mat work so you don't need to bring a mat.

Is there an age limit on classes?

Zumba is for everyone therefore there isn't an upper age limit however you should consult your GP before starting exercise for the first time if you are over 69 years old. Children aged 14-15 must be accompanied by an adult. Unfortunately at present I cannot accept children under 14 as the moves are too strenuous for growing children. I am hoping to complete the Zumbatomic training aimed specifically for children this year.

How can I pay?
At present I only accept cash at the venue, very soon I will be using session punchcards where you can buy a block of 10 sessions at a discounted price, further down the line I will accept paypal through this website.

What if I have a medical condition that might affect me when exercising?
When you come to your first Zumba session you will be required to fill out a registration form which has medical screening questions, depending on which questions you answer yes to you may be asked to get your GP's approval before exercising. Once your GP has approved that you are able to attend the class we can discuss how to change some of the moves or perhaps not work as hard so that you can enjoy the Zumba experience without risking your health. If you would like to fill out the form before arriving at the class - please contact me and I will email one to you.

At the beginning of each session I will request for anyone with injuries to come and see me first, and if your health changes (for example you become pregnant), please make sure you inform me of the change.

I am pregnant can I still attend Zumba?
I am aware that some Zumba Instructors are happy to teach pregnant ladies but after careful consideration, having had two children myself I have a policy of no pregnant women allowed, due to many of the movements being hip / stomach / waist related - being aware of how soft the hips become during pregnancy I would be concerned that the Zumba session may damage either yourself or your unborn baby. Please come back to sessions after the baby is born (once you have recovered!), I will be delighted to see you!
